New energy or new dangers?

For the first time in over thirty years the US has approved the construction of new nuclear reactors on American soil. With our economy in the poots our government is looking for more ways to make energy more cost effective. Nuclear energy is some of the most powerful and cheapest forms of energy out there. The reason the US has been reluctant to invest in nuclear energy is because of an accident in Pennsylvania were a meltdown occurred. It was the worst accident in U.S. commercial nuclear power plant history, and resulted in the release of moderate amounts of radioactive gases and radioactive iodine into the environment. Now the US has approved and even supports these new reactors. The Obama administration has already funded 8.3 billion of the 14 billion dolor project. This is very interesting as the US has been behind the nuclear race for better energy. France receives 75% of its electricity from nuclear power plants and even 17% of it is recycled nuclear fuel.
This could mean great things for our economy and way of life but i am cautious of the location. I'm sure you all heard of the Japanese power-plant tat overheated during the earthquake resulting in a meltdown. Now i want to ask you a question , what do you think of this? Are you excited or terrified ? Me personally i think this is good as long as we don't have a Homer behind the buttons.
