Recent events on gay marriage.

Emily's post on gay marriage in my opinion said all the right stuff just maybe could have used some more facts and solid backing. It is actually unconstitutional for the state to interfere with the institute of marriage. The first amendment states that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise. Basically its just up to the church to deem gay marriage is okay or not. Somthing interesting to read on is Obama  has recently shown his full support for gay couples along with his VP Joe Biden . This is actual very surprising seeing how elections are soon and this could effect his votes . I expected Obama to continue to be in the middle of this subject at least until after the election. This surely will cause some unrest in voters not sporting gay marriage . I was expecting a Obama to win this upcoming election but now i think it will be a lot closer. Lets look in another direction what about gay parents.  A lesbian couple adopted two twin girls but since the law states a gay person can only adopt 1 child thy adopted them separately . Though sadly the couple split and since only one parent technically has custody of one child they don't have any say in the others life. One of the mothers moved to Norway with her child and because of this the twins cannot see each other any more. This is a very serious issue that needs some resolve, no child should ever be separated from there family like this.

Medicaid expanding

Colorado is starting to help out some of their poorest residents enroll in Medicaid. Colorado has an indigent care program that helps charity clinics and hospitals cover bills. But it only pays about 10 cents on the dollar. That's starting to change as Colorado is adding people to its rolls for Medicaid, the state and federal health program for the poor and disabled. Though 50000 people qualify for Medicaid only about 10000 will get all the services they need. Like most states Colorado has limited enrollment to some kids , pregnant women and some disabled , so most states don't cover some of the poorest families. But the new federal health law extends the states reach, allowing them to help adults even without children. The reason enrollment is so low is because Colorado expects cost per medical bill will increase. This is because typically poor people without health insurance dot visit the doctor making their risk a lot higher for health problems, they may not see a doctor at all until  the condition becomes dire. Colorado  is now the seventh state to take advantage of this. This is all great news especially for people like Dan miller . Dan is a homeless man in Downtown Denver who sells newspapers for $15  a day. Dan went to one of Colorado charity clinics and after some health problems was able to get a free CT scan, normally his bill would be upwards of $2000. Some people are saying the country cant afford this but the way i see it , if you start making the general public healthier then more people will be able to work.

Dont want to get pregnant dont have sex.

When I read this post talking about the government possibly giving free contraceptives to women immediately did the "really face". http://politicalwallflower.blogspot.com/2012/03/issues-on.html . So let me get this strait , people sporting this idea want the US government to use there money on women who cant keep there pants on, pardon my enthusiasm but this shouldn't be even a discussion. Im all for experimenting and enjoying life but if you are not prepared don't be stupid. I understand there are many women who cannot afford these contraceptives but it doesn't mean the government should support your decisions. An example , lets say i love to backyard wrestle and i am consistently getting hurt , should the government pay for my pain pills ? The answer most people will say is no. So why should they pay for contraceptives for women who choose to have sex. Maybe instead of just paying for the contraceptives maybe put the money to schools and fund better teen pregnancy awareness. Seems like a much smarter idea.

May need some apples

With healthcare being one of the most talked about topics, it may seem redundant to blog about it but this article brought to my attention an alarming stat. Julie Rovner a writer for NPR noted a survey conducted for the first half of 2011 by the National Center for Health Statistics, part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.. The survey of over fifty thousand people showed that one out of three of them were having trouble paying for their medical bills.  In a perfect world everyone will be healthy and get the care they need. Obviously this is not the case. There are over forty seven million people on Medicare and twelve percent of them have trouble still paying the bills. The study not surprisingly found that people under the age of sixty five and have lower income were having the real problems with forty five percent having problems with bills. Rovner , a graduate from the University of Michigan with a degree of political science stated that there are seventy eight million baby boomers going to enter retirement very soon and there needs to be a policy overhaul for these people to receive the medical care they need. I definitely have to agree with numbers as large as these.

New energy or new dangers?

For the first time in over thirty years the US has approved the construction of new nuclear reactors on American soil. With our economy in the poots our government is looking for more ways to make energy more cost effective. Nuclear energy is some of the most powerful and cheapest forms of energy out there. The reason the US has been reluctant to invest in nuclear energy is because of an accident in Pennsylvania were a meltdown occurred. It was the worst accident in U.S. commercial nuclear power plant history, and resulted in the release of moderate amounts of radioactive gases and radioactive iodine into the environment. Now the US has approved and even supports these new reactors. The Obama administration has already funded 8.3 billion of the 14 billion dolor project. This is very interesting as the US has been behind the nuclear race for better energy. France receives 75% of its electricity from nuclear power plants and even 17% of it is recycled nuclear fuel.
This could mean great things for our economy and way of life but i am cautious of the location. I'm sure you all heard of the Japanese power-plant tat overheated during the earthquake resulting in a meltdown. Now i want to ask you a question , what do you think of this? Are you excited or terrified ? Me personally i think this is good as long as we don't have a Homer behind the buttons.
